In this series we will unpack the hidden truths contained within the 6 days of creation in Genesis. We may be familiar with the account of creation, but we may not realize that this record also contains many spiritual experiences we have before and after we’re saved.
Did you know that there is a prologue to the record of creation in the Bible? The first two verses in the Bible (Gen. 1:1-2) reveal that something happened to cause God’s original creation to be damaged, which led Him to restore what had been lost.
In Day 1 of creation, God said “Let there be light”. There are four requirements to bring forth light. The Spirit of God broods over us in our death situation, God speaks to us, His light comes in, and a separation between light and darkness is made.
Just as God’s speaking separated the waters that covered the earth, His speaking divides our soul from our spirit (Heb. 4:12). Since we live on earth we naturally set our mind on earthly things. But the Word of God, and calling on the Lord’s name helps us to set our mind on the heavenly things.
Dry land appearing out of the death waters on day three is a picture of Christ rising from the dead on the third day (1 Cor. 15:4). In our spiritual experience, Christ is dry land that we can walk on and explore (Col. 2:6). Our daily life should be full of exploring and enjoying Christ as the reality of the dry land in Gen 1:9.
God created the Sun and the Moon, the Fourth-day lights, in order for more substantial growth of life to occur. The Sun is a type of Christ, and the Moon is a type of the church (Gen. 37:9, Eph. 5:26). As God’s life grows in us we see Christ and the church more, we receive more of His light, and more of His life grows in us.
What enables fish to survive and thrive in salty waters without being salted? What enables a bird to soar above everything? The fish life and the bird life. As those who have Christ’s life in us, we can live in this world but not be of this world, and we can soar with wings like eagles above every frustration (John 17:16, Isaiah 40:31).
Only once does God say that what He created was very good. This is when He created man in His own image and in His own likeness to express Him (Gen. 1:26, 31). Christ, who is the image of the invisible God (Col. 1:15), is the One who God saw being expressed when He formed man. Man is the highest form of like because man expresses God and magnifies Christ!
